THE UNIVERSITY CHESS MATCH.
The Inter-University Chess match was played yesterday afternoon at the British Chess Club. Up to the present Cambridge had won 15 of these matches to 8 scored by their opponents. Yesterday’s match was, however, in favour of Oxford, in spite of the fact that Mr. Robbins lost his game on board No. 4 by exceeding his time. Messrs. E. Lawton, E. Y. Spencer-Churchill, and R. A. Jenkins scored good victories for Oxford; while Mr. W. T. Quin won for Cambridge. The two remaining games being draws, the result was a victory for Oxford by four games to three. Full score:—
