CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY CHESS CLUB.
On Tuesday, March 24th, the combined Universities played the British Chess Club, and lost (6½ to 12½). On Wednesday, they played the City of London, and won (10½ to 9½) against a fairly strong team. On Thursday, they lost to a strong team of the Metropolitan Chess Club, by 9 to 12.
The preceding Monday, Cambridge played the North London Chess Club, losing (3½ to 6½).
The Inter-University Match was played on Friday, March 27th, at 2 p.m. The game on the fourth board was won on the time limit. The games on the second, fifth and seventh boards were adjudicated by Mr. Lasker at 6 o'clock.
Oxford has now won 8 of these matches and Cambridge 15. Probably three of this year's team will be up next year. |
