NARROW ESCAPE OF AN

INVERNESS-SHIRE PROPRIETOR.

News has been received of the safety of Mr A. E. Crowley, proprietor of Boleskine House, Foyers, who lately joined an expedition to the Himalayas to make an endeavour to scale Kanchanjngo [sic], which towers to the great height of 28,156 feet. The expedition left Darjeeling on August 6th, and consisted of five gentlemen and an escort of Goorkhas. One of the explorers, a Swiss lieutenant, was swept away by an avalanche and killed, and the party had to return, baffled in all respects, and reached Darjeeling without further mishap on 20th September.
