KINCHENJUNGA EXPLORATION.

Mr. Crowley, head of the late Kinchinjunga expedition, is in Calcutta. He will shortly proceed to Europe. He proposes to organise another climbing party with which he will return to the attack next year. Mr. Crowley describes the formation of Kinchinjunga as follows:—“Imagine a tea-cup broken in half; take one of the broken halves, stand it upright, and clap a handful of snow against the hollow. That will give you an idea of the mountain with the glacier which rests upon it.” The rocks above the glacier leading to the summit are climbable if it were necessary to attempt a direct ascent, but Mr. Crowley considers that it will not be necessary as there is a much easier way.
