“OCCULT REVIEW.”
The October issue of the “Occult Review” more than justifies the leading position occupied by this periodical amongst publications dealing with the occult. An exceedingly interesting article dealing with the ever-recurring problem—the influence of the mind upon the body, and vice versa, is contributed by the editor, a number of valuable examples being quoted. An article which covers a very wide field and will appeal to all is that on “The Evolution and Development of the Devil,” by G. Wolliscraft Phead. Involving not a little research, the article is a very comprehensive one, and the large number of illustrations from old prints, etc., render it very valuable. In “The Rites of Eleusis,” by “P.” there are set forth some facts about one of the most remarkable of modern mystical societies, namely, of the “A∴A∴,” which has for its object the attaining of religious ecstasy by means of ceremonial magic, and the contributions will open new fields to many. Under the title, “Can Re-incarnation be demonstrated,” Mr. Dudley Wright contributes an extremely interesting article, but does not give a definite answer to the question, bringing forward, however, a number of theories. The significance of names and numbers receives attractive treatment from Mr. W. J. Colville; while the usual monthly features go to make up an issue of all-round excellence, and of special interest both to the general reader and the student of the occult. |
