The match opened on Wednesday afternoon at the Berkeley Hotel. The billiard room was crowded both afternoon and evening by billiard enthusiasts, who were treated to a delightful exhibition of the game both players being in excellent form. . . .

Selsey Hotel, the popular rendezvous of all sportsmen, witnessed the second day’s play between W. Cook and Mr. R. H. Webber, the Bognor amateur.

Whilst passing it might not be out of place to mention the splendid records Cooks holds. He is a billiard tutor with Messrs. Burroughes & Watts, the well-known billiard caterers. He holds the world’s record break of 42,746, and, amongst other notable people, he has taught Lady Bingham, Lady Jephson, Hon. C. Vereker, His Grace the Duke of Manchester, Lord Bingham, Lord R. Jones-Kerr, the Sultan of Zanzibar, Sir Thomas Lipton, Hon. Walter and Charles Rothschild, Lord Hotham, Lord Boleskine, Lord Leitrim, and Lord Addington.
