"ENGLISH REVIEW."
A strong story of German army life, “Vin Ordinaire,” by Mr. D. H. Lawrence, is the best of the lighter matters in the English Review, though another story, “The Stratagem,” by Aleister Crowley, is ingeniously and farcically imaginative. Among the verse is a poem, rough but haunting, entitled, “The Children,” by Mr. F. G. Layton. Of more serious articles “President Wilson,” by Mr. Sydney Brooks; “The Land of London: the Leasehold System,” by Mr. W. M. J. Williams; “Democratic Painting and the ‘Desophistication of the Eye,’ ” by Mr. Bernhard Sickert; and “The New Spirit in Portugal,” by Lady Muir Mackenzie, are to be noted. |
