GENERAL NEWS IN BRIEF.
Fortune Telling.—At Marlborough Street Police Court, London, yesterday, Mary Davies (50) described as an authoress and preacher, 93 Regent Street, London, was fined £20 in each of two cases and ten guineas costs on charges of pretending to tell fortunes. At the previous hearing, evidence was given that the defendant was found seated on a throne wearing the regalia of a Worshipful Master of Freemasons. A society called the Order of the Temple of the Orient was carried on. The defendant yesterday gave evidence denying she had ever told fortunes for money. She had given spiritual comfort to people for the past 20 years. She made about £3 10s per week. |
