"TEMPLE OF THE ORIENT."
FORTUNE TELLER TO PAY.
At Marlborough-street Police-court, London, yesterday, Mary Davies, aged 50, described as an authoress and preacher, 93, Regent-street, London, was fined £20 in each of two cases, and ten guineas costs, in which she was charged with pretending to tell fortunes. At the previous hearing evidence was given that defendant was found seated on a throne, wearing the regalia of a Worshipful Master of Freemasons, and that a Society called the Order of the Temple of the Orient, was carried on. Defendant yesterday gave evidence denying she had ever told fortunes for money. She had given spiritual comfort to people for the past twenty years. She made about £3 10s a week. |
