TWO £20 PENALTIES.
WELSH-NAMED DEFENDANT WHO SAT UPON “A THRONE.”
Mary Davies, aged 50, described as an authoress and preacher, of 93, Regent-street, London, was fined £20 in each of two cases and ten guineas costs, at Marlborough-street Police-court, London, on Tuesday upon charges or pretending to tell fortunes.
At the previous hearing evidence was given that defendant was found seated on a throne, wearing the regalia of a worshipful master of Freemasons. A society called the Order of the Temple of the Orient was carried on.
Defendant gave evidence denying that she had ever told fortunes for money. She had given spiritual comfort to people for the past twenty years. |
