ASPIRING CITY MUST HAVE MOTTO AS GUIDE.

CHICAGO, Jan. 17.—Every city that expects to amount to anything in the future must have a motto that crystallizes in a few words its highest aspirations. There’s a magical reason.

Such is the assertion of Frater Achad [Charles Stansfeld Jones], keeper of the temple of the Great White Brotherhood, who told me of his conception of the power of words and of mottos in particular.

“Chicago’s motto, ‘I Will,’ is the greatest motto in America,” he said “and is especially fitting to the present aeon. While the city authorities may not know it, that motto was given to Chicago by an invisible hierarchy, the Great White Brotherhood, that control the destinies of humanity.

“Those are magical words and have a mystical and metaphysical meaning that is far deeper than the ordinary man’s idea of mental determination.

“This motto implies action in every conceivable way. It was given to Chicago because this city is the heart center of the country. It is the distributing point of the nation and will become so more and more, not only in commerce, but in learning and other branches of endeavor.”
