Are There Two Aleister Crowleys?

I see that a novel by Aleister Crowley entitled “The Diary of a Drug Fiend,” has just been issued by a leading British publishing house. Of course, there may be two men of this same unusual name, but as regards one of them I am in possession of a very definite and unsavoury record.

This Aleister Crowley, who is a minor writer, is an Englishman, who appears to have been in the United States since the beginning of the war, but the ranks as an anti-British propagandist with the misguided Houston Stewart Chamberlain. He had not even the excuse of being a pacifist.

He spoke of the Kaiser as “a man of peace”; of course, he especiall attacked his native country, and he denounced France for having entered into an “unholy alliance with England and Russia”; he also circulated a pamphlet, “Honesty is the Best Policy,” published subsequently in a newspaper, in which he denounced the use of black and savage troops against the “noble German.”

And other things could be said about him too.
