British Writer of Magic Is

Expelled from French Soil.

PARIS, April 17.—Alastair [sic] Crowley, who claims to have been a British secret service agent during the World war, left Paris today for Brussels after his French identity card had been taken from him by the government.

Withdrawal of Crowley’s identity card was tantamount to expulsion from France. Crowley said yesterday he knew nothing of any charges against him but he was going to Brussels in the hope of being able ultimately to return to Paris where he has lived for six years.

He enjoys some reputation as a writer on Rosicrucian doctrines and magic.
