One of the last acts of Marshal Chiang Hseuh Liang before relinquishing his command was to order the liberation of Reuter’s special correspondent, Mr. Gerald Yorke, who was arrested by Chinese soldiers yesterday. Representations from the British Legation in Peiping were primarily responsible for this move, and Mr. Yorke has now arrived safely in Peiping. |
