Alleged Libellous Notice by Bookseller.
Fifty pounds damages were awarded by Mr. Justice Bennett in the Chancery Division, yesterday, in an action brought by Mr. Edward Alexander Crowley against Mr. Arthur Gordon Gray, a bookseller, of Fraed Street, Paddington, alleging libel contained in a notice attached to Mr. Crowley’s novel “Moonchild,” exposed for sale at Mr. Gray’s shop.
His Lordship awarded damages to the amount stated, with costs, and granted a stay of execution with a view to an appeal, if the amount of the damages were brought into court. |
