PSYCHIC GOSSIP
At least one speaker during the Tea-Talk discussion on “Black Magic” at the Mayfair Hotel, London, on May 13th—fancy choosing a Sunday to debate such a subject!—claimed to possess the power of invoking evil forces, though all the speakers disclaimed any real association with the workings of the “evil eye.” Dr. Alexander Cannon, author of “The Invisible Influence” was there, also Aleister Crowley and Rollo Ahmed. “If you really want to see a demonstration of black magic just come along and see me,” said the latter, who later accepted a challenge by Garland Anderson, the coloured playwright, to work his magic on him. Ahmed conferred with Aleister Crowley in regard to giving a joint demonstration on the spot, but it was eventually decided, much to the disappointment of the rest, that conditions were inadequate, and it was suggested that another meeting should be held on a future occasion for the purpose of experimentation. I don’t know what you think of all this, but personally it seems to me disgusting to find intelligent people amusing themselves with sorcery, though I suppose one can always find persons who will do anything for a thrill. What shall we hear of next?
