MR. CROWLEY ASKS FOR NEW TRIAL

Mr. Aleister Crowley appealed in the Court of Appeals yesterday from the judgment of Mr. Justice Swift in an action brought by him against Miss Nina Hamnett, author of a book called “Laughing Torso,” and the printers and publishers.

In the King’s Bench Division a special jury returned a verdict for the defendants.

Mr. J. P. Eddy (for Mr. Crowley) yesterday asked for a new trial. Mr. Crowley complained that the book imputed to him the practice of black magic at Cefalu, in Sicily.

Mr. Eddy was still speaking when the Court adjourned.
