A BEACHY HEAD ADVENTURE.
On April 4th, the dangerous chalk rock at Beachy Head, known as the Pinnacle, was climbed for the first time by Mr. E. Aleister Crowley and a friend, both members of the Alpine Club. The route chosen was from the east side. Climbing the North Gill led the adventurers on to the ridge joining the pinnacle to the cliff. The north face was then ascended, the route lying to the right again. The extreme summit was then reached. In places the climbers found it necessary to cut steps with an ice axe. The chalk was everywhere very loose, and the climb proved most difficult and dangerous. |
