The “V” Man

It has been reported that M. Victor de Laveleye, a former Belgian Minister of State, was the originator of the “V” sign.

I am the originator of this sign, having made the original suggestion to a member of the Foreign Office near the end of 1939. I used this sign in my writings as long ago as 1909, and also in 1941 and 1942.
