CHESS.

The Hastings Chess Club tournaments began last Wednesday with:—Class I, Norman, Cole, Taylor, Herringshaw, Jackson, Sinden, Crowley, Winder and Whyte. Winder had a week’s leave and arranged a number of games in which he beat Cole and Norman. Class II, Medley, Crouch, Morren, Rider, Freeman and Plummer. Class III, the Misses Lankey, Shaw, Walker, Rogers, Mannington and Mr. H. Harris. A ladies tournament has the same as Class III, with Miss Stovell.
