Author Dies After Fall.
Miss Nina Hamnett, 65, sculptress, painter, and authoress, dies yesterday following a fall from a window of her flat in Westbourne-terrace, Paddington. She was once named by Augustus John as one of the four best English women painters.
But it was her book "Laughing Torso" which brought Miss Hamnett greater fame. She was sued for libel by Aleister Crowley, who alleged that she had imputed that he practised "black magic." He lost his case. |
