Correspondence from William Wynn Westcott to William Ayton[1]

[Undated: circa April 1900]

Dear Brother Ayton,

I will get the [Cipher] MSS. and show you on loan when I can; but not until things are settled down.

I have reason to think that Mr. M.'s [MacGregor Mathers] attack on me was due to a misapprehension, and is at an end; so I am still intending to keep entirely aloof form the proceedings of the Second Order Members. It is clear that I resigned years ago all rights to act in Second Order matters, or to claim its Rituals or belongings—it seems to me your friends must remain under Mr. M. or resign—I will not lead nor join a schism.

Yours sincerely,

S.A.

1—William Ayton was a member of the Golden Dawn.
