Correspondence from Aleister Crowley to R. Greiff

Care Frater,

I am very sorry not to have answered your letter before. I have been very busy and rather ill and your letter got mislaid. The Astral investigation [?] which you describe is evidence of excellent powers, but they are clearly not under proper control. I should recommend practicing the assumption of the God form of Harpocrates, doing the Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram, only being very careful to do it right, and starting from quiet meditation. Do not try the God position. Get some position where you can sit on the floor. Otherwise one day, in the course of being thrown about the room, you may hurt yourself. But it is most important never to allow these things to happen. You must repress the slightest movement of the body as being a disturbance to your concentration. Stick to one mantra. By the way, it is "Aum mani padme Hum", which is quite different from the Om or Aum. You must keep on repressing any manifestations whatever. It is quite clear that you are predisposed to them. Think, think all the time. No—this is not what I want. Nothing will content me but the ultimate attainment. Do not allow yourself to be tempted to quit this attitude whatever may be offered you.

Yours fraternally.
