Very Illustrious Sir Knight

You may possibly receive a telegram signed Clifford from a poor brother of the Order, a Sovereign Grand Inspector General VII°, announcing his arrival in your valley. Please extend to him the hospitality of the Order as you would to myself; but in particular, do not communicate the fact of his arrival to any person but your own Lady, and that under the strongest possible guarantees of secrecy. The reason for this will be communicated to you in good season; at present I can only say this, that it is a matter touching the welfare of the Empire, and not at all that of the Order. I am aware of your patriotic sentiments, and rely upon them.

Yours in the Bonds of the Order,

[eleven-fold cross] Baphomet O.T.O.
