Correspondence from Aleister Crowley to Charles Stansfeld Jones

Care Frater,
Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.
Mysteriouser and mysteriouser!
One telegram intelligible; next refers to the force of Coph Nia; but reads "It should now be easy for Theorine (Therion, no doubt) to abstract Stele from I V S (? I O H ill-ordered house) in The V.V. (?Victorious City) of N.V. (?Nu) Signed Seventy.
I admit my exalted grade has not quite realized my expectations. I don't quite get the hang of the whole thing, and I don't see why you wire. "This ointment might have been sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor."
Doubtless your letter will explain all. Bit I hope you remember what you were taught to be at your initiation.
It looks to me as if you'd got into Samahdi very violently and suddenly, and were not quite balanced therein. However, we need £5000 for Equinox III (I'm working up the material already) so perhaps it's just as well. Just do a miracle for it, and cable it along so as to be safe.
Do take this very seriously. I made a most fearful ass of myself—several times—by being obedient to the heavenly vision. It's always safe to sit still and refuse to do anything. If it's the right thing, delay won't hurt it.
(The most sincere solicitude for your welfare prompts these paternal words.)
Love is the law, love under will.
Fraternally,
Θ
