Care Frater,
Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.
Many thanks for your enclosing 'epistle' re O.T.O. I will do what you ask as soon as possible.
I told you, I think, that our order for printed copies of 'Comment' had been handed in to printer before you let me know that Bro Cowie [George MacNie Cowie] had all these matters in hand, but that I was in time to get the alterations made. I enclose a copy and am sending you 50 more. We have a good many, and I will send a few to S.[outh] A.[frica] etc if you wish
Our meeting, last night, was in some ways successful, that is to say, that those who attended seemed pleased and satisfied, also everything was done in dignified fashion and without any hitch. On the other hand, the number of people who responded to the Ads were few in proportion, and we are a good deal more out of pocket than we can by any means afford.
The B.C.E.R. [B.C. Electric Railway] tell me they will be glad for me to come back at any time, and I shall do so, for a while, as it is the best means of keeping things going that I can think of. I cannot start a big campaign on my own, without Capital to back it. Never mind, everything comes in time. In any case we got the words of the Law, before a number of people. We also had a small Add in the Paper, and I told the Reporters to look out for the Checkie affair.
One thing, I am glad about, I seem to have suddenly acquired the art of addressing a Meeting, without notes, or preparation, for a period of 30 to 40 Minutes, with ease and fluency. This power may prove of service later, and in any case, even if I go back to work, we can get up some Meetings from time to time, and I shall be in a position to stand a little loss occasionally without so much inconvenience.
The question of Registration here looks like the next point to get over, there is little doubt of Conscription, I should say, afterwards.
Sufficient unto the day etc.
With every good wish,
Love is the Law, Love under Will.
Yours in the bonds of the Order,
|
