Correspondence from Wilfred Talbot Smith to Charles Stansfeld Jones
[EXTRACT]
[1 August 1918]
This ship of yours is sailying [sic] on a smooth sea now and for some time past, but one has to be careful to avoid those rocks that cause the breakers, which there are several of. . . . I got pretty well used to the rough wheather [sic] and dont [sic] mind taking risks, but some are not built so strong in some directions, so I keep the helm down, perhaps not without hopes that some day we may strike an open sea where we shall not have to take so much care with the helm and such a keen look out.
