Correspondence from Aleister Crowley to Raymond Radclyffe
Tunis
Dec. 26/23
My dear Radclyffe.
93
I have just received a copy of the review you were kind enough to write in the N.W. [New Witness] about my D.F. [The Diary of a Drug Fiend]. It gave me the greatest pleasure and encouragement at a time of the [illegible] distress and anxiety. Believe me I shall never forget the constant kindness which you have shown me. Your faith in my genius has done more than perhaps you [illegible] to help me plug along.
I am just back from 10 weeks in the desert. Peace encompasses my soul and light informed it. I wrote quite a lot of poetry as I have not done for a very long while and my [illegible] critic Professor Mudd [Norman Mudd] tells me it is as good as I have ever turned out.
I am hoping to be able to get to Paris shortly. It is a question of scraping together somehow the cost of the journey. I am getting frightfully tired of having nowhere to sit down, so to speak; to be cut off absolutely from one's headquarters is more of a strain than I should have thought possible, especially to such a born wanderer as myself. I will let you know as soon as I get within range. I hope, indeed, to be able to come to London in the spring and trust I may find you flourishing as the wicked traditionally do.
All best wishes for the New Year to you and Mrs. Radclyffe.
