Can't you see that we are stewing and starving to no purpose. The thing to do is to sell the translations [of Crowley's works] as they are and get an advance to have leisure to make the final revisions. We can apparently get you a job—an easy one where you would be speaking Eng[lish] all the time at 1000 f[rancs] p[er] mo[nth]. We can probably supplement this from our own funds if things go as they should. But when we said 2000 f[rancs] every one jumped. To Parisien ears the amount seemed enormous. I strongly advise you to take this which is offered. By the autumn at latest you ought to have found something better and in you own line. You had better telegraph me if you are willing to accept.
