Correspondence from Kasimira Bass to (Lawyer) Eugene Shoecraft

[EXTRACT]

[7 December 1928]

He [Crowley] had many hardships in his life and he will find this time too the way to get out of it. I have no one to help me and I am only a woman. As to the question of marriage, I don't intend to marry Crowley, or anyone, beside Crowley showed himself as a very violent man and pulled my hair, so no woman would stand it . . . I was always straight to him and tried and did my best but he suspected me and misunderstood me most of the time. I wish him only the best and I am very sorry, when he is in trouble at present.
