Correspondence from Carl de Vidal Hunt to Gerald Yorke
[EXTRACT]
[28 December 1928]
My dear Yorke,
[ . . . ] he addressed a letter to my club, one of the most exclusive in Paris, stating his opinion of a club which had 'such a questionable character' as me amongst its members. I could have sent him to gaol for denigration but the club never pays any attention to such letters. Instead I wrote to you on Dec. 16 that I would have to notify the police.
Please draw your own conclusions and wash your hands of the man and all his money affairs with poor deluded women. Read the stories in John Bull and The Sunday Express. I now believe them to be true, absolutely. And what is more, I know exactly how the man works. [ . . . ] Whatever troubles come to him, he will only have himself to blame.
