Thanks for yours. Serpent [Israel Regardie] sends you two long letters to-morrow or Tuesday.

I would add this: if there is any bitch about the marriage, I might come alone to London, and put it up to them to de M [Maria de Miramar] in on grounds of [illegible] morality. The only bore about it all is the money question. If they'd let us alone, and let us put quite normal things through, we'd have no need for 6 weeks at least. But every upset costs money.

I believe I can convince any really responsible person of my integrity. Never forget that I have not been attacked at any time by anybody when I had a chance to reply.

I have been utterly bewildered all day by your statement that the French are really worried. France, to me, has always stood for sanity and common sense.

Surely the more I have been watched, the more certain it is that I have not devoted my leisure hours to dissecting multitudes of ladies.

I may confess, though, that my nerves are a bit on edge, on account of the utter mystery of the whole bag of tricks.

It might be useful if I had a formal invitation from you to meet Col C [Lieutenant Colonel John Carter] at dinner about the end of the first week in June.
