93,

D'Artagnan, or the Headless Horseman, or whoever you employed to convey your esteem and favour of the 4th inst. must have ridden very hard, I got it at Jachymov on the afternoon of the 13th—only 9 days. Speed! Progress! Efficiency!

I got your wire one hour after returning here and wired PRS [P.R. Stephensen] at once that I would be at Lpl Str  8.26 Saturday night bar accidents.

By "accidents" I must have meant Bayley; for ten minutes later I got his wire, addressed to me here, that he had sent off the Registrar's certificate to Jachymov!!!

He is well in the running for the Prize Idiot of the Solar System—with the rest nowhere.

I hope this will make no difference to the Consul's putting M [Maria de Miramar] on my passport Friday afternoon. . . . I don't see why it should, as it is a matter settled by International Conventions that we should recognize marriages contracted according to German law. Anyhow I'll see him this a.m. and arrange as best I can. If Marie has to stay, she has to stay. I've got to be on the job in London.
