Came out here Wednesday. At last a chance to stay put for a bit and diet etc. A really perfect spot, especially for Yoga. All civilized convenience, but hardly spoilt at all. Temperature exactly right, and no trouble in getting the sort of food I need for health. Sea A.1. too. No expensive idiots and stupid vices. There should be quite a lot of money in turning it into a hell on earth!
We started round this afternoon to look for a furnished room, but this place doesn't seem to work that way. We can't even find shops, bar a few for visitors, and don't know where the inhabitants live, or how! To-morrow we'll cast over the Eastern Pool.
Most educated people here speak French, and some English. There is a big English colony in Lisbon. Pessoa [Fernando Pessoa] comes out Saturday or Sunday and we'll get him to help look for a dovecot; also business. He could well be Mandrake [Mandrake Press] agent here.
Very slack after morning swim and the long walk so——

P.S. One may over estimate. There's a Govt. tax on hotel bills. It means adding 20% to calculations till we get more settled.
