Being £9 short on expectations, we were down to 20 pfennig last night—so: back to the pawnshop!
Bill [Bertha Busch] has been so damned heroic that I could have beaten her; she nearly killed herself yesterday talking to Krake, but got him to give a dinner for us to meet some good people Friday—if we can live till then. Made herself damned ill. Other lines promising, but we can't start properly without some feeling of security, and not one word from you for ever so long: we wonder if you're ill.
