1. These Defendants admit that they are respectively the publishers and printers of the book referred to in paragraph 1 of the Statement of Claim.

     

2. These Defendants deny that the words set out in paragraph 2 of the Statement of Claim or any of them are defamatory.

     

3. If the words set out in the first part of paragraph 2 of the Statement of Claim are defamatory (which is denied) these Defendants say that the said words are true in substance and in fact.

 

P A R T I C U L A R S

 

The story set out in the said words was told by the Plaintiff to the Defendant Nina Hamnett before the publication complained of and was represented by the Plaintiff to the said Defendant as being true.

     

4. If the words set out in the second part of paragraph 2 of the Statement of Claim are defamatory (which is denied) these Defendants say that the said words are true in substance  and in fact.

     

5. These Defendants deny the Plaintiff has been injured in his character or reputation by either of the publications complained of in the Statement of Claim.
