LAUGHING TORSO

Dear Sadleir,

The defence was delivered on the 2nd and I enclose a copy. You will remember that it was decided to be one of justification, that is, affirming that the passages complained of are true. The defence is therefore on those lines.

Although settled in consultation with our leader Hilbery, the practice is for the junior counsel alone to sign the pleadings, hence the sole signature of Lilley.

Yours sincerely,

Charles S.J. Harper
