What we object to [in Hitlerism] is the attempt to destroy the individual will, the imposition of the uniform. E.g. I quite agree that marriage is a useful institution; but it becomes a vile offense if people are to be bullied into it. [ . . . ] I detest oppression. [ . . . ] But I base most of my objection on H.[itler]'s demoniac foaming-at-the-mouth expression. I like people who smoke and drink; if they scream and swear instead, I bar them.
