Correspondence from Frieda Harris to Aleister Crowley

[EXTRACT]

[7 June 1938]

Dear Crowley,

I have been talking to my husband [Percy Harris] about the Tarot Cards, and he advises me to come to a business understanding with you about our mutual liability as you term it.

You say in your receipt for £10—it is an advance on the monies due to me from the proceeds of our joint venture in the production of a Pack of Tarot Cards. . . .

But, as at present things seem a little difficult for you, so will you allow me to give you for your kind help one guinea every time we do work together which should be once a week. Our other meetings being purely social, will not incur further liability. I do hope you will excuse my being so business-like but, as I have told you, I have no money of my own and am responsible to my husband for my expenditure which is really a wise arrangement for me, and I prefer it.
