Just a note to let you know we put on the al August 26th for 7, maybe 9 people. Also to let you know I am negotiating for a 640 acre tract of land. It will make an ideal retreat, part of a beautiful level valley right in the hills. 1500-2000 elevation, about 100 miles from here. If we could get some money we might be able to buy the rest of it, about 1100 acres in all, under 10 dollars an acre I feel sure. The 640 I expect to come our way without cash changing hands. I have none anyhow. Wow! Just remember Regina [Regina Kahl] and Jane [Jane Wolfe] lose their jobs at the end of this month.

If we swing the deal, I shall get some unemployed fellows to go out there, live in tents, and start work on the place: while we have to cut expenses and keep them in grub etc till things get going—farm produce and stock for a beginning.

. . . The place is ours except paper technicalities etc. Now we want money to drive ahead with the development of it, to purchase a right of way for a better road into it: also if possible to buy the rest of the valley, about 1100 acres at 5 dollars an acre. . . .
