Dear Louis

I was miserable when Saturday passed with no sign of your gracious presence. No word at all from Frieda [Frieda Harris]. I am really anxious: by this I mean that it is on my mind the whole time and interferes with my work. I also want to see you about my little V stunt. I am told that Haw-Haw has found out, and attacked me again. The possible consequences of the disclosure may be formidable. It might (1) kill the whole campaign: or (2) get me into very serious trouble: or (3) upset the godly in the U.S.A.: or (4) God alone knows! It would do more harm than good for me to disclaim it—the obvious simple get-out. The evidence of the photographs is quite impossible to rebut or to explain away. They have been accessible to all—one of them (the most incriminating of course!) was published in 1909. They could say, I suppose, that they (the B.B.C. & Co) didn't know that I had pulled their legs as I'm well known to be fond of doing, and so on. But then they would have to abandon the whole plan: at the very best there is bound to be fantastic confusion. Do come and counsel your unhappy bungler!

Yours

Aleister
