Correspondence from Aleister Crowley to Karl Germer

Everyone who has heard of the Tarot has heard all about my projected book [The Book of Thoth], and everybody who has seen her [Frieda Harris] work knows that she was simply a talented amateur groping about with the obscure Bloomsbury Schools. It is only when I directed her and gave her a backbone, insisted on plucking up courage to draw a line with meaning to it, that her work has become of any importance.

[ . . . ]

. . . a silly woman . . . one of those numerous people who have mastered technique very thoroughly, but simply no intelligence or personality to give meaning to the work.
