Correspondence from Aleister Crowley to Karl Germer
Dec 26 [1943]
Most Secret from Sascha [Sascha Germer]
For God's sake don't let her get a suspicion of this. Her sympathetic thought and prompt action move me very deeply and I can't thank her enough. But I can't wear ready-made shirts; my "St. Andrews' swing" stopped that many years ago.
It would have been better to send the material.*
They have not yet arrived; when they do, I will find out if I can legally sell them—if so, probably for 2 or 3 times what S.[asha] paid, on account of the coupons.
Charming as the gesture was, it was needless; the coupon people sent me some to replace the loss, and I had new shirts a week later.
This does sound so horrid—when my heart is overflowing with love and gratitude.
A.C.
*—better, by the way, to send best quality; laundries here, bar accidents, are A.1.
