You have no idea how dull and dismal the whole country is . . . the best chance of making things work is for this crew of imbecile swine [the Labor government] to [illegible]; a new general election is possible, even probable; the news is indescribable. . . . If only Winston [Churchill] were 20 years younger. But he isn't! . . . Meanwhile I'll be in the lounge (which happens to be empty).
