The idea of my starting my own nucleus is something that I find very attractive [ . . . ] I have not considered it recently, however, without presuming that such a project would be tied in closely with your work. Now that you have cut me loose from such considerations and cast me out ‘on my own’ in this connection, I shall proceed as best I can and as quickly as I can.
