Correspondence from Robert Lund to Philip Kaplan
8503 Hartwell Street, Detroit 28, Michigan
Mr. Philip Kaplan 47-17 39th Avenue, Long Island City 4, New York
April 5, 1958
Dear Mr. Kaplan:
Thank you for returning my list to me.
I do not want to give you any false impression as to your chances of obtaining the material, but it is my hope that the material will go to you. I say that because, as you know, I have a strong aversion to books going into public libraries and institutions.
My understanding with the bookseller who is negotiating for the University is that if you offer a bid in excess of the $1,250 offered by Indiana, the University will be given a final opportunity to top your bid. That will resolve the matter for once and all. I am rather eager to get this matter settled.
I will be in New York at the Park Sheraton on the evening of Sunday, April 13th, and if you would like to see a couple of the manuscripts I have held out for myself—regardless of whether you obtain the other material—I will bring a few of the items with me. They are not for sale at this time and I would bring them only to show to you in view of your interest in Crowley and not with the idea of selling them.
Thank you for your interest in the material.
Very truly yours,
Robert Lund
