Dear Phil:
Some months ago a Rev. Becker sold his magic (conjuring—not the Crowley variety) library to Weiser in New York. I was very eager to buy some of the plums in this collection and I know Becker had a number of rare items, as he had been an active collector for many years. I wrote to Weiser no fewer than three times, but they did not reply to any of my letters. A part of the collection was placed on public sale about a month ago and I understand it has been pretty well picked over as of now. Anyway, I put this proposition to you: If you can find anything of value, any outstanding item in what Weiser has left, I would be willing to work out a trade with you for part or all of the few Crowley pieces I held out for myself, depending on what you turn up. I should tell you that I probably have in my library 95 per cent of the stuff Weiser is offering, so it will be no easy task finding items I would accept in trade. I have no idea of what Weiser is asking for the books, but from the few conjuring items listed in their catalogues from time to time, his prices are substantially higher than the prices of specialist in conjuring books. Under no circumstances would I want you to purchase anything from Weiser on my behalf without telling me about it first, because I would not want you to get stuck with the junk they want to sell. I am not at all eager to let the few Crowley items go, but I would do so if I can make any worthwhile additions to my conjuring library.
Thanks.
Regards,
Robert Lund
