Correspondence from Robert Lund to Philip Kaplan
8503 Hartwell Street, Detroit 28, Michigan
January 23, 1959
Dear Phil:
I'll begin this with an apology, because it's another nuisance letter.
As a Christmas gift for its customers in 1939, a company called Publishers Printing Co. / William Bradford Press / 207 West 25th St. / New York issued 400 copies of a little book entitled The Whole Art of Legerdemain. The book was given gratis to the company's customers. The Whole Art of Legerdemain is a very well known book among magicians, but this particular edition is hard to find. I have been seeking it for a couple of years.
The Manhattan telephone directory lists a Publishers Printing Co. at 36th & 47th Avenue, Long Island City, and a Bradford Press at 52 East 19th St., N.Y.C. I don't know which of the two put out the book and I doubt that the company that issued it would have a copy around today, 19 years after publication.
The reason I'm writing you is to ask if you happen to know anyone in either firm through your company. If so, would you mind asking about the book when you have time. Don't go to a lot of trouble it isn't that important.
Thank you.
Regards,
Robert Lund
