Correspondence from Marjorie Cameron to Joseph Campbell
[EXTRACT]
[2 October 1961]
Mr. Joseph Campbell,
For the space of nearly ten years I have carried your book "The Hero with a Thousand Faces" with me, and this long after I have left behind most loved objects, home and former friends . . . During this time it has been prevailing intention [sic] of contacting you and somehow making you aware that there exists in the contemporary world this hero phenomenon of which you speak . . . Undoubtedly, there has been a knowing undercurrent in your teachings, that inevitably, the force would venture forth again from a common need . . . I have returned from the heroic voyage and it is my desire, though I may be motivated by sentimentality, to bring the evidence into your hands.
