Dear Philip:

Thank God I drove to the Post Office to find your letter so that I can send a message before I go to the Hospital for a major operation on Monday morning July 23.

It is a delayed prostate affair, and under the condition and my age (77) one cannot guarantee when I shall be able to drive again, or even when they let me out.

However, I should love to talk to you again. The only suggestion I can make in these circumstances is to phone me in time from L.A. before leaving. My telephone is

West Point, Cal. 293 4875.

I wish you a nice trip, and regret that this must be all for the moment. I am actually in pain while writing.

All the best to you and your wife,

Sincerely

Karl.
